We can finally put 2021 in the rearview mirror as we welcome 2022 with open arms and a sense of optimism. To my friends, readers and followers, I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year and a prosperous 2022!
I tend not to make resolutions, but in the past I’ve followed the lead of Chris Brogan to choose three words that will guide me in the coming year. Here are Chris’ 3 Words for 2022 and some background on his approach.
While, I haven’t done this for the last couple of years, I probably should have done it last year as I could have proudly looked back at having accomplished one of my words (DRY), assuming it made the cut at the time. What started out as Dry January ended up becoming Dry 2021 for me. It feels really weird to acknowledge that I did not have a drink in 2021 and may even surprise some of you but it also feels like a huge accomplishment.
Hindsight is 20/20 as they say but this gives me hope that I can follow through on at least one of my 3 words for 2022 and stay focused on them.
So without further ado, here they are…
Share
I’ve had an on again, off again relationship with social media for quite some time. I am active for a few weeks and then lose interest or just can’t find the time to post. However, I continue to see it as an important channel and especially great if you want to share insights, content and engage with a community. So I’m going to give social media another go in 2022, in order to deliver on my SHARE word and post marketing insights and strategies far more regularly. This includes launching @b2bmarketingdude on both Instagram and Facebook to go along with @bziolo on LinkedIn and Twitter.
Teach
This was one of my words, way back in 2016, and while it’s not recommended to reuse words, I really felt this one was important for me in 2022 as I want to take my marketing experience over the past 2 decades and TEACH that to others. While this blog and social media will be used as a way to share, I want to develop more educational material around the areas of marketing I’m most passionate about, including strategy, messaging, demand generation, thought leadership, content marketing and maybe other topics. This material may include templates and cheat sheets I share on this site but I am hoping it becomes an online course too.
Bold
COVID has affected people in many different ways. And while my family and I have been blessed to be healthy throughout and not lose a loved one from the virus, it has resulted in me being far more cautious with many things. As an introvert, it has also made it easier to just retreat to my basement and avoid being out there. That’s why, regardless with what happens during this 4th (or is it 5th) wave, I want to be more BOLD and make some Big Bets in my work and personal activities. That starts by putting some of my goals out there in a more public way than I have in the past and not worrying if I’m ready or not.
So there you have it. My 3 Words for 2022: Share – Teach – Bold.
Keep an eye on this blog or follow me on social (Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter) to see how I do at living up to them or for updates as some of my projects become more ready to share. I encourage all of you to try this exercise as a refreshing approach that can put you on the path to a more successful 2022. I look forward to seeing your 3 words in action.

Thanks for the inspiration Brendan. I am inspired to identify my three words. I am beginning the year recovering from major health issues so I truly feel the need to reboot my life and three words seem like a cogent way to highlight and reinforce where I need to focus.
