I realize it’s been a while since I posted, and that’s a long story, but with the new year I want to get back at it and this post seems like the best way to get started.
For the past two years, I’ve followed the lead of Chris Brogan to choose three words that will guide me in the coming year. Here are Chris’ 3 Words for 2017 and some background.
I’ve found this exercise to be helpful and hope that I can deliver on my 3 words better this year as I’ll admit it has not worked out as well as I would have hoped in the past. I’ve made progress towards some of my words but not all of them in 2015 and 2016.
But this post is not about looking back but setting goals for the future. So, for 2017, here are my 3 words:
- Focus: I’ve always been interested in a lot of different things which can be good in some ways but can also be a distraction. I need to focus on one area rather than switch between multiple ideas and not get any of them done. In 2017, I want to focus on one, or definitely fewer things.
- Write: I’m sure I’m breaking a rule by using the same word for two straight years but I want to keep this goal in front of me. I have been wanting to write a book for quite some time and I’ve actually started two but neither is finished. I need to write more in 2017 not just for this blog but to finish a complete draft of at least one of the books that I started.
- Launch: Related to the two words above, I want to redo this site and launch an email newsletter and/or course to help start-ups (and others) generate more demand for their products and services. There are other ideas too from the lessons I’ve learned for more effective B2B marketing that I want to share in some format so stay tuned.
Once again, my goals are ambitious but with better focus, I hope to accomplish more in 2017. I encourage all of you to try this exercise too, instead of making some resolutions that get quickly forgotten. It’s a refreshing approach that can put you on the path to a successful 2017.
To all my readers and followers, I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year and a prosperous 2017!
